General Aims

This module aims to develop participants’:

  • understanding of best practice library and information service strategic planning;
  • holistic analytical skills to allow them to contribute to the analysis and design of library information services and associated information systems;
  • functional understanding of the individual components of an information systems architecture, and the relationship between components;
  • understanding of the challenges and critical success factors of information service development.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module, students will be able to:

  • contribute to information service strategic planning;
  • apply systems thinking, and manage and communicate systems complexity;
  • model and analyse information services and associated processes;
  • demonstrate functional knowledge of the individual components of an information systems architecture, and the relationship between components;
  • evaluate an information service from a user perspective.
