Aims and Objectives
This module aims to:
- introduce students to the theories of digitisation and the concept of digital libraries;
- provide an understanding of digital library services and the role of information professionals in their operation;
- provide exposure to current and emerging technologies and their application in library and information settings.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module, students will:
- understand the foundations and evolution of digital libraries
- apply practical skills surrounding digitisation and digital preservation
- identify issues surrounding digital privacy and ethics
- develop and maintain accessible and usable online services with current tools
- recognise and employ relational databases for digital services
- employ social media within organisational contexts and create social media policies
- understand the role of Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) in delivering socially responsible and inclusive services

- Ethics and privacy of digital services
- Web site development, accessibility and usability
