Aims and Objectives

This module aims to:

  • introduce students to the theories of digitisation and the concept of digital libraries;
  • provide an understanding of digital library services and the role of information professionals in their operation;
  • provide exposure to current and emerging technologies and their application in library and information settings.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module, students will:

  • understand the foundations and evolution of digital libraries
  • apply practical skills surrounding digitisation and digital preservation
  • identify issues surrounding digital privacy and ethics
  • develop and maintain accessible and usable online services with current tools
  • recognise and employ relational databases for digital services
  • employ social media within organisational contexts and create social media policies
  • understand the role of Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) in delivering socially responsible and inclusive services
