This module aims to:

introduce students to the theories of digitisation and the concept of digital libraries;
provide an understanding of digital library services and the role of information professionals in their operation;
provide exposure to current and emerging technologies and their application in library and information settings.

On completion of this module, students will:

understand the foundations and evolution of digital libraries
apply practical skills surrounding digitisation and digital preservation
identify issues surrounding digital privacy and ethics
develop and maintain accessible and usable online services with current tools
recognise and employ relational databases for digital services
employ social media within organisational contexts and create social media policies
understand the role of Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) in delivering socially responsible and inclusive services
