Aims and Objectives
This module will provide skills and understanding on the ageing process and how this influences the design or delivery of technologies or services for older adults. It will highlight the need to understand: the diversity and complexity of ageing population and implications for digital health technologies in:
- promoting health and wellbeing
- supporting independent ageing in a preferred place for as long as possible
- supporting terminal and end of life care
- supporting informal carers
- health inequalities
Learning Outcomes
After completing this class participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the ageing process across the lifespan
- Demonstrate an understanding of the challenges of a growing ageing population on the health and care sector across the world
- Demonstrate a critical understanding of older people’s needs and influence on effective interaction and use of digital health technologies
- Develop critical understanding of optimal ways to co-design with and for an ageing population
- Demonstrate a critical understanding of the role of digital health technologies in both widening and reducing inequalities in older adults
Syllabus
Each of the following will consist of weekly lecture and interactive activity across lectures, seminars and assignments and personal work:
- What is healthy ageing?;
- Barriers and Solutions to Older People Using Digital Health Technologies;
- Co-designing for older adults and working examples;
- Care homes and digital solutions;
- Focus on Digital Technologies for Carers, Palliative and End of Life;
- Revision session focusing on core learning outcomes.
